Paris Beaches and lunch on the beautiful terraces of restaurants
Published on 9 July 2015, dans Flavours & Gastronomy
Summer is upon us and at the Hotel Jacques de Molay, we like our guests to have all they need to take full advantage of this season of sunshine and warmth. A great way of making the most of the Paris summer is to enjoy Paris Plages; the temporary beaches set up in the heart of the city. Another great summer pleasure is lunch on the comfortable terraces of good restaurants. For this we recommend the Enfants Rouges, Manfred and the Sancerre, where the food is delicious and the terraces delightfully sunny.
Beach resort at Paris Plages
Multiple tonnes of fine sand are shipped in to central Paris to form the 800 metres of urban beaches created for the Paris Plage event from July 20th to August 18th. The heart of the city becomes a beach resort offering a wealth of activities and recreation. If you’re feeling energetic you can participate in some beach volleyball, rugby or even table football. The Bassin de la Villette is turned into a seaside-style attraction, with pedal boats, kayaking, sailing, rowing and even more. On the square in front of the Hotel de Ville, the Fondation Française des Jeux organises wheelchair basketball games to raise awareness of disability issues. Other activities available during Paris Plage include petanque, dance classes and Tai Chi, but if you simply want to soak up some sunshine, sun loungers are also provided and there’s snack bars and ice cream vendors at each beach location.
During Paris Plage you can also attend the Festival Fnac Live, which will be held from July 17th to 20th. During these four days, numerous free concerts are offered with headliners such as Ben l’Oncle Soul, Julien Doré, Emily Loizeau, Jeanne Cherhal, Gaëtan Roussel and Bernard Lavilliers. The concerts begin at 5 pm. You can even enjoy an open-air screening of the brilliant animated movie Ratatouille in front of the Hotel de Ville on August 16th at 8 pm.
You won't be the only ones to have fun in Paris Plage, as children get to enjoy a series of activities, too. They can try their hand at scientific workshops, enjoy storytelling sessions, learn to play the ukulele, bounce on a trampoline or join in with solving a giant puzzle.
For anyone who likes competitions, a photo contest will be held on the Pont Notre-Dame, sponsored by Lafarge. Share your sandcastle masterpiece via Instagram and the public will decide the winner. There are 4 iPads to be won and the 20 best pictures will be exhibited at the City Hall.
