Want to visit Paris on a tight budget? The capital is full of free museums that contain as many secrets and treasures as the Parisian cultural giants! Here are some you can discover during your stay at the Hotel Jacques de Molay.
The Museum of Romantic Life
The Musée de la Vie Romantique preserves all the charm of Paris during the Romantic period. Musicians, writers and artists as famous as Delacroix and Dickens, as well as the novelist George Sand and the painter Ary Scheffer, who are the focus of this museum, once frequented this former private house. Don’t miss tea in the conservatory or a stroll in the garden that is filled with roses in the summer.
The Petit Palais and its pretty garden
This architectural gem comprises four buildings gathered around a garden surrounded by colonnades. An art museum, it presents a broad panorama of artistic creation from antiquity until the present era as well as the principal creative trends of the 19th century via a superb collection of paintings by noted artists of the time. A lovely interior garden adds to the charm.
The Maison de Victor Hugo
Enter the intimate world of the famous French writer who lived with his family on the second floor of this mansion in the Place des Vosges. It was here that a large part of Les Misérables and other great works were written. Personal memorabilia, period furniture and other artefacts illustrate the three major stages of Hugo's life; before, during and after his exile on Guernsey.
The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris
The MAM, located in the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo, an imposing and monumental building near the Eiffel Tower, is dedicated to modern and contemporary creation. Its permanent collections include more than 8,000 works illustrating the various currents of 20th century art.
