Contemporary art in Paris
Published on 9 March 2016, dans Fairs & Trade Shows
If you’re in Paris between March 31st and April 3rd and you have an interest in the world of contemporary art, there is one appointment you should not miss: the Art Paris Art Fair. This exhibition presents the work of the greatest artists of today displayed beneath the magnificent glass roof of the Grand Palais. Whether you’re a true art aficionado or just curious, this is the place to be.
Discover modern and contemporary art in Paris
In addition to the beautiful Beaux Arts architecture of the Grand Palais in which it is held, the Art Paris Art Fair offers a sweeping overview of what has been done in the field of art since the end of World War II. With over twenty countries present, including first time attendees Iran, Azerbaijan and Colombia, this exhibition focuses on all forms of art in various media. The fair is divided into several sectors that bring together key artists from each country, while also presenting personal exhibitions. Each year at this event a particular nation is chosen to be the guest of honour. As 2016 is the year of France-Korea, the decision to shine the art world spotlight on the Land of Morning Calm, South Korea, was a natural one. Digital mapping and video art is also at the forefront, with numerous screenings being conducted on the facade of the Grand Palais.
Exhibitors and visitors
Spread over a generous area of 6500 metres, around 145 exhibitors will present their work to visitors in the Grand Palais. Conferences and talks are also scheduled, and many international galleries will be present in the Promises sector. This year, over ten galleries that have been in existence less than 5 years will present their most prominent artists. If you wish to acquire works in limited series, visit the ArtDesign sector, where you’ll find a fine selection of works available. To continue your immersion in contemporary art, the book section offers a wide selection of volumes by and about artists. Visitors can also admire more than 35 solo shows, which will link the various themes of the event.
A fair for true fans
If, after buying wonderful books, prints and original works, meeting the artists and chatting with gallery representatives from across the world before returning to your room at the Hotel Jacques de Molay, you find that you’re ready for yet more of the contemporary art scene, then you’re in luck. You can also visit the PAD Paris at the Tuileries from March 29th to April 3rd. This show is dedicated to the Decorative Arts of the 20th and 21st centuries, and invites you to enter the workshops of artists. Intimate and eclectic, PAD presents the latest trends in art in all its forms: jewellery, design, painting, sculpture, primitive art and more. Between the Grand Palais and the Louvre, the PAD is situated in the Pavilion of Art and Design in the Tuileries garden and can be reached very quickly from your hotel via public transport.
