Concerts, sales and beaches, the winning combo for a fun-filled summer in Paris
Published on 31 May 2017, dans Visit Paris
The Summer Sales, Paris Plages, and Solidays: the agenda of this summer in Paris is already full to bursting. Deckchairs and loungers await you on the banks of the Seine for a relaxing session in the sun between shopping sprees. But before that you’ll want to head to Longchamp Racecourse on June 23rd, 24th and 25th for the 18th edition of the Solidays music festival.
Good humour and solidarity for the Solidays festival
Organised by Solidarité Sida, the 3 day Solidays music festival raises funds for the fight against AIDS. Solidays features around 150 performers every year, each of whom agrees to play for free or receive very little remuneration so that the associations on the front lines of AIDS prevention and awareness can benefit as much as possible. On the schedule for the 2017 edition are acts as diverse as The Prodigy, Motivés! Gaël Faye, Toots & the Maytals and Ibrahim Maalouf. All, however, share the common denominators of solidarity, good humour and a festival spirit.
Summer Sales shopping spree!
On Wednesday, June 28th, from 8:00 am, shops throughout Paris will throw open their doors and invite you to indulge in a shopping spree at the Summer Sales. Shopaholics will be poised and ready to pounce on a pair of dizzy heels and a little black dress that will harmonise so perfectly with the gold necklace spotted at the jewellery shop across the way! It’s also a golden opportunity to change the sofa, get some new bedding, change your electronic appliances or stock up on books. The neighbourhood bookstores will be able to advise you on the works not to be missed, and the fashion designers of the Marais will tempt you. As for the department stores, from the Boulevard Haussmann to the Hôtel de Ville, where BHV is located, as well as Bon Marché in Sèvres-Babylone, all offer a wide and diverse cornucopia of goods ranging from ready-to-wear to furnishings, toys and cosmetics, all within their splendid and ornate surroundings. Latecomers need not panic, however, as the bargain hunting fun lasts until August 8th.
Sun and fun on the beaches of Paris
From July 8th to September 3rd, the Georges-Pompidou Expressway, the Bassin de la Villette and the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville disguise themselves... as seaside resorts! Beaches of fine sand, striped deckchairs and parasols spring up in the heart of the capital, along with ice-cream vendors, mobile libraries, and refreshment stands. Add a few palm trees and you could be in the tropics! In addition, there’s badminton, volleyball, table football and, at the Bassin de la Villette, rowing, canoeing, and water games of all kinds on the agenda. The most romantic will opt for a cruise on the Canal Saint-Martin, while those who simply want to take it easy can put on their swimming costume and sunglasses and slap on some sunscreen for a siesta on the sands of Paris!
